The event held at SIP Comprehensive Service Center for Biomedical Industry in late June offered many pharmaceutical companies an opportunity to have their import and export plans evaluated by experts on site, thereby accelerating the customs clearance for their goods.

“The center aims to break the traditional operation mode characterized by decentralized and independent approval and supervision by multiple departments, and to form a professional team to provide enterprises in the biomedical sector with more convenient and efficient services,” said Lyu Tian, deputy director of the center.
Based on the integration of resources of over 10 departments including the local customs office and medical products administration, the center provides one-stop, tailored professional services for biomedicine companies in different development stages, ranging from risk assessment for import or export of special items to consultation and legal aid.

The center accepted 2,338 applications for its services from January to June.
“Our services are designed to address the most urgent needs of enterprises, specifically targeting the pain points and bottlenecks,” said Lyu.

Many of the center’s services are based on institutional innovations in the free trade zone in SIP, such as the level-by-level management of importing medical devices that are not registered in the country for use in R&D activities and the local professional title accreditation for biomedical engineering professionals, which are pioneering nationwide.

In addition, the center has optimized its services by going digital, allowing enterprises to seek advice and go through certain procedures on line.
