“A few months ago, this riverbank was covered by overgrown weeds where you’d worry about tripping. Now, we have smooth footpaths and even a slide for children!” said Zhang, a resident of Songtao Community in SIP’s Xietang Sub-district.
Like Zhang, the nearby residents are thrilled with the transformation of the once-neglected waterfront into a cherished pocket park, and also grateful for the community committee’s quick response to their requests.

Several months ago, through meetings, the residents voiced needs like “a space for chess”, “safe play areas for children” and “wider, non-slip paths”. Now, the park features convenient hooks, chess tables with embedded reading glasses cases, and sturdy stone-paved walkways.

The 800-meter riverbank’s remarkable glow-up followed months of hard work. The community committee, alongside related property management company and volunteers, cleared unauthorized vegetable plots, relocated parked vehicles and restored the area’s ecological base. They also planted different varieties of flowers to ensure seasonal blooms and scenic beauty at every step.
